DETAILS

For musicians with a passion for learning about writing songs.

In this course, you will study  lyrics, melody, and chord structure, and will focus on honing the skills necessary for great songwriting. Throughout the two weeks, you will build songs in different styles from the ground up, and form strong foundations that you will be able to use for the rest of your life. There will be daily exercises that push you outside of your creative box, and challenge you to think in different ways.

We will explore the necessity of collaboration -- you will work together some days, and be on your own for others. Our focus will be pop music and top 40 songwriting, and we will be observing and gaining exposure to the songwriting industry (have you ever wondered what it’s actually like to be in Beyoncé’s writing studio?). You will leave this course with a fully produced pop/contemporary song (normally worth  $375 ) and a showcase at the end of the summer will be held for all songwriters to showcase everyone’s final product.

Classes will average 60 - 90 minutes (depending on the final size of the class)

Homework will be set ranging from 30mins -1h per night

Last year’s favorite song was turned into a Squad Harmonix official music video and came 3rd in the Varsity Vocals professional a cappella competition this year.

The limited slots are based on how many songs can be produced per week. If students would like to work together we can accept two students per song slot at sign up. They would then share the cost of the camp and both work on one song together. This is a GREAT option as it's fun to pair up but also mimics the music industry environment as most songwriters team up with other songwriters to create music. We are not responsible in finding a second student to share the class with you.

LIVE SHOWCASE     3rd Street Promenade July 30th

DETAILS      - EXCLUSIVE TO CURRENT SQUAD MEMBERS ONLY

CURRENT PSQUAD This is for those that are committing to performing bi-weekly in August for the Winter semester. We need to rehearse and perfect the entire set so we can start performing live .  Once the semester starts we will use this set to perform live and will work on the Holiday set during rehearsals. Students are expected to attend the in-person camp having already memorized their vocal parts for the current songs. (list of songs will be posted over the next few weeks)   We will also split the group  up into mini groups to work on mini songs together.(Havana, Mister Sandman, etc) We will be adding a few new songs as well.

We have secured the stage at 3rd street Promenade for every 1st and 3rd weekend for live performances starting in August.  Masks required at ALL TIMES.  During this camp, choreography will be taught as well as games, competitions and all students will be provided with a microphone that is their's to keep until their time with Squad has ended. Microphone MUST be brought to every rehearsal and masks must be kept on at all times. Please provide a snack and water for during the breaks.  This is considered an intense training program. Be prepared to work your butts off.

CURRENT SENIORS - We would like to put together a Second Psquad group for ages 11-15. Those currently in Senior who have passed their Senior 1  music theory and sight reading qualifications are eligible for this.  We will start working on the songs required for your live set and you will commit to performing ONCE a month starting in August (covid safe pending)  It will be unfair to expect current Seniors to learn and memorize the  entire set of music that the current Psquad group have down as they have had a full year to learn it.  Further to this many haven't had much training in person with singing together or blending. We really need to spend a lot of time training you up with technique so we want to create a second live group. However, this won't work if only 2 or 3 people sign up. We need a minimum of 5 members to sign up for this for training to be beneficial. You will train together and work on separate songs and will also join PSqaud 1 in group numbers when performing live. Please email  Laura at info@squadharmonix.com   if you are interested in this option and if we have enough members agree to this then we will move forward with it.  We need to know number by the end of next week. (May 8th)
