RECORDING - GARAGEBAND

Description: Throughout this course, students will learn the fundamentals of Apple’s GarageBand software. This will include recording basic vocals to a click track, as well as punching in vocals, and importing/exporting files. Students will additionally learn about an effective recording setup and tips for getting the best sounding recordings every time. This course is a requirement in order to participate in Squad Harmonix box videos.


PRODUCTION - LOGIC

Required Materials: Logic Pro X, Splice, Condenser Microphone, XLR Cable, Audio Interface, MIDI Keyboard
Homework Estimate: ~45 min per night
Description: This course is for students looking to learn more advanced recording and production using Apple’s Logic Pro X software. Students will build on the fundamentals of recording the best possible quality vocals, as well as using a MIDI keyboard to create music from Logic’s instrument library. Additionally, students will explore the Splice app for a royalty-free library of sounds and pre-recorded loops to create custom arrangements. Students will learn the basics of effects like EQ, compression, and reverb/delay. Students will come out of this course with a self-produced demo.

SONGWRITING SUMMER SESSION
July 11-22, Weekdays 5:15pm

This course is designed for students to learn the fundamentals of pop songwriting, with an emphasis on lyrical storytelling. Students will explore their own experiences to write 2 truthful songs over the course of 2 weeks, taking inspiration from their favorite artists and adhering to the structural guidelines of unique assignments. Students will have the option to have one of their songs produced into a demo, or to record it on their own.

MUSIC INDUSTRY CAMP

Ever wonder how that song goes from being written in a bedroom to being a #1 Billboard hit? Or how much money Justin Bieber actually made from his song ‘Stay?’ In this course we will explore introductory concepts of the music business, covering everything from record labels to music publishing companies to talent agencies, to careers within the music industry, to copyright law. Students will have the chance to meet music industry professionals in masterclass settings throughout this course to get real-world exposure to the business.
